This is some blog description about this site
Did you know the average emergency room wait time is four hours or longer? High unemployment, loss of health insurance, and the recession are just a few of the many reasons for long wait times. Though these wait times seem to continuously increase throughout the years, patient satisfaction remains the same.
Patients who arrive between the hours of 7 AM and 3 PM are generally seen significantly faster than patients arriving after 3 PM. Also, patients who visit an emergency room on a Saturday or Sunday are much more likely to be pleased with the level and timeliness of their care as opposed to if they arrive on a Monday or Tuesday.
To avoid emergency room wait times, consider alternative care such as a free-standing emergency room like ER247Plus. ER247PLUS is a full-service emergency room with all the capabilities of a hospital based ER without the long wait times. ER247PLUS handles adult and pediatric accidents and injuries ranging from a minor laceration to an active heart attack and is located at 9180 Katy Freeway in Houston, Texas.
It’s no secret that Texas heat leads to unforeseen emergencies. Whether it’s wild fires or heat related illnesses, they are all coming from the same source. In fact, 138 people died as a result to extreme heat exposure in 2010 according to the U.S. Natural Hazard Statistics.
These illnesses are caused by over-exposure to heat and the three main illnesses are heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. These illnesses can lead to visits to your 24 hour emergency room if the proper precautions are not taken. In fact, heat-related illnesses that occur during a sport or recreational activity send nearly 6,000 people in the U.S. to emergency rooms every year according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The 24 hour emergency room, ER247PLUS, reports the following symptoms and treatments for common heat related illnesses.
Heat Cramps can be described as painful cramps, especially in the legs accompanied by a low grade fever. Heat Cramps can be remedied by relocating to a cool place, removing excess clothing, applying cold towels to the body, hydrating and stretching any muscles that are cramping.
Heat Exhaustion has all the same symptoms as Heat Cramps. In addition, you may find yourself with a higher temperature accompanied with vomiting, diarrhea, headache, fatigue and weakness. Heat Exhaustion can be remedied by practicing all of the same treatment methods for a patient experiencing Heat Cramps. If the First-Aid treatment does not work, take the victim to the nearest 24 hour emergency room for further treatment.
Heat Stroke is the most severe of all three heat illnesses and can result in death. The symptoms range from a high temperature of over 104 F, rapid heart rate, vomiting, lethargy, seizures, coma and in the most severe cases, death. To treat a heat stroke, call 911 or visit your local 24 hour emergency room. Heat stroke is a medical emergency and a physician is required for treatment.
Heat illnesses are preventable and some common guidelines to keep you out of an emergency room include:
Heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke are all illnesses from over exposure of the sun and the effects range from simple cramps to death. If you feel yourself experiencing heat cramps, take a break – because over exertion can cause Heat Stroke. These are just a few ways to avoid common heat illnesses and by following these guidelines, you are less likely to wind-up in an emergency room.
Spring is here which means it’s time to get outside, enjoy the sunshine and of course, participate in some outdoor recreation. Whether your outdoor activities are “just for fun” or “competitive” the proper accident/injury precautions still apply. Many athletes try to immediately perform at last year’s peak performance level which strengthens the chance of enduring a severe injury. Often times these injuries lead to unplanned visits to the emergency room. Therefore, follow some common steps to kick-start your athleticism and enjoy a summer of injury free sports.
According to an Orthopedic Surgeon, the following measures should be taken in order to prevent injuries:
As long as you follow the appropriate steps, your accident and injury level should be minimal. However, if you should find yourself in an emergency situation, visit your closest Emergency Room or Free-Standing Emergency Room such as ER247Plus.

What do you do when you need an emergency room at two in the morning? Would you go to the hospital ER? There are many alternatives for your 24 hour emergency care that you should consider such as a free-standing emergency room.
Just as the name suggests, a free-standing emergency room isn’t actually located in a hospital. However, the capabilities are still the same and the vast majority offer 24 hour emergency care staffed with board certified physicians. The medical equipment typically includes advanced imaging services such as CT Scans, X-Rays and Ultra-Sound and just like a hospital, the capabilities range from a treating a minor laceration to stabilizing a heart attack.
If you don’t want to deal with the hassle and long wait times typically seen in a hospital ER, a free-standing emergency room is a good alternative; especially when 80% of Emergency Room visits do NOT result in hospitalization. That means 8 out of 10 people seen in Hospital Emergency Rooms could have received the same care without the inconvenience or hassle of a long wait time. Therefore, when choosing your 24 hour emergency care center, choose wisely and consider your alternatives.
With Spring Break here, many families are traveling to tropical destinations; or any destination with water nearby. With children in the equation, that means swimmer’s ear which is a painful condition caused when bacteria grows in the ear canal. You can swim; you can splash, but first take some notes from ER 247 Plus, a Houston emergency room, on how to prevent and/or treat swimmer’s ear.
Swimmer’s ear is a painful condition which affects the outer portion of the ear and ear canal. For the most part, swimmer’s ear occurs during the summer due to exposure of the ear to water. Both men and women of all ages can contract swimmer’s ear, but children and teenagers are more susceptible. Interestingly enough, up to 10% of the population will be a victim of swimmer’s ear in their lifetime.
Now that we know what swimmer’s ear is, what truly causes this condition? Human ears are armed with their own defense mechanisms which include the skin lining in the ear canal. The lining functions as a protector against infections in two ways; it is slightly acidic and also acts as a physical barrier that protects against an overindulgent amount of moisture. Any damage to this lining may lead to infection.
What may cause my skin lining of my ear canal to break?
How do you know you’re a victim of swimmer’s ear? The most common symptom of swimmer's ear is pain. The pain usually involves only one ear and is especially sensitive when the infected ear is touched. The ear
canal may itch, may be red, and in severe cases the ear canal may be swollen shut. Other symptoms noted by ER 247 Plus, a Houston Emergency room, includes ear drainage that may be clear, white, yellow, or sometimes bloody and foul smelling.
Lastly, when should you seek medical attention, or should you at all? Home care for swimmer's ear can be used to control pain temporarily. However, non-prescription ear drops may not be strong enough to cure the infection, so an appointment with your family practitioner may be necessary. However, if symptoms worsen, visit your Houston Emergency Room, ER 247 Plus to seek further treatment.
Are you clumsy? Do you find yourself slipping in your home or tripping outside? Even with your lofty efforts to stay sturdy, sometimes slips, trips and falls are inevitable. Follow these tips from ER 24-7 Plus, your Houston Emergency Room, to prevent accidents and better understand the differences between your injuries.
Our research shows that the majority of falls – 60% - happen while the victim is standing on the same level resulting from slips and trips while the remaining 40 percent are falls from some sort of an elevation. According to the nurses at ER 24-7 Plus, your Houston Emergency Room, injuries can result from a slip, trip or fall, so we’ve listed common causes for even the most accident-prone victims.
To understand the differences between the two, please see the below definitions and examples.
Slips
Slips happen where there is not enough friction or traction between your footwear and walking surface. Common causes of slips are:
Trips
Trips happen when your foot strikes or hits an object causing you to lose balance
and, eventually fall. Common causes of tripping are:

Many people get confused as to the difference between Urgent Care and Emergency Centers. Hopefully, you will find the information provided below useful in distinguishing between the two.
Urgent Care Centers, sometimes called a "doc in a box," are walk-in centers that typically offer extended hours. They do not carry the extensive equipment, laboratory instruments, and supplies needed to care for emergencies. Urgent Care Centers are usually staffed by physician assistants, nurse practitioners and medical assistants, and provide solid, basic care for non-life-threatening medical situations.
Emergency Care Centers, whether freestanding or hospital based provide 24-hour emergency care and have the necessary items to care for the critically ill or injured person. Emergency Care Centers are staffed by physicians, registered nurses and licensed radiological technologist. Any accident or illness that you consider an emergency or that may lead to loss of life or limb, serious medical complications or permanent disability should be evaluated in the Emergency Care Center. Emergency Care Centers can also provide care for non- life-threatening medical conditions.
If you experience symptoms of a heart attack or stroke, or feel your "life or limb" is in danger, go directly to an ER or call 911 and do not pass go. According to the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), you should visit the ER if you have any of the following warning signs (this is not a complete list):
At ER 24-7 Plus, we provide the same level of clinical services you would receive at a local hospital based emergency room. We are more than a medical clinic or urgent care, we are a full-blown emergency room. So, why use us?
There are many benefits to using our 24 hour emergency room:

Q.) How is ER 24–7 Plus different from traditional hospital-based Emergency Rooms?
A.) Consider us your very own personal, Houston Emergency Center. Unlike traditional emergency rooms, we have no long wait times, no costly parking, and no hospital traffic to fight. Our waiting area is comfortable for your friends and family, our experienced staff provides your care in a comfortable environment within minutes of arrival.
Q.) What is a freestanding Emergency Room?
A.) A freestanding emergency room is an Emergency Center that offers emergency care, laboratory services, emergency medications, X-Ray and a CAT Scan in a "freestanding" facility not attached to a hospital. Our staff and nurses are emergency trained and our physicians are board certified with extensive emergency care experience.
Q.) How are you different than my doctor's office, a general clinic or an Urgent Care Center?
A.) Unlike your physician’s office, clinics or Urgent Care Centers, we are able to care for all types of emergency illnesses and injuries. We can care for sore throats, ear infections, heart attacks and strokes. And because we are always open, ER 24 – 7 Plus can treat you any time you have an emergency medical illness or injury.
Q.) Do you provide medical services for children?
A.) Our physicians provide outstanding emergency care and personalized service for children with emergency needs. Emergencies can be frightening to your child and you. Our care is provided without the hussle and bussle of a hospital based emergency room allowing our caregivers more time with your child.
Q.) What if I need to stay in the hospital?
A.) If you need a hospital stay, we will make arrangements to transfer you to the hospital of your choice that allows you to be admitted within minutes of your arrival. If you do not have an admitting physician, we can refer you to a provider to meet your inpatient needs. Local ambulance companies staffed with certified emergency medical technicians and paramedics will provide for your transportation.
Q.) Are you more expensive than a traditional Emergency Room?
A.) No, we have the same rates as a traditional hospital based Emergency Room. Most insurance plans have a separate co-pay structure for Emergency Room visits. This fee is higher than a doctor's office visit and generally higher than an urgent care visit. The traditional emergency room visit fee is applied to being treated at ER 24 – 7 Plus. If you have questions concerning insurance co-pays, please call your insurance company's customer service line to determine your benefits.
Q.) What if I have questions about my bill?
A.) Medical billing can be confusing. Our aim is to be fair and transparent with our billing process. We will do our best to answer any questions about you billing and insurance.
Q.) What insurance do you take?
A.) We accept all major private insurance plans like Aetna, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Humana, Medicare, and others. A cash pay option is available for those without insurance.
Q.) What do I need to bring with me?
A.) Please bring a photo ID and your insurance card with you.

It’s that time of year again. The time of year that we swear to make sudden and drastic changes in our lives…only finding that by mid-February, all of our “change” steam gone. This year, let me encourage you to make small, easy to sustain: but none the less significant changes’ in your life. The following are the small changes I made last year; perhaps they will work well for you as well.
Brown Bag Lunch
I pack my own lunch 4 days a week. Not only can I save money, but I also save calories. For example, my chicken sandwich is made with whole wheat bread, (whole wheat white if you prefer), light sandwich spread or light mayo, and a portion controlled 3 ounces of deli sliced chicken. When packing lunch, or actually preparing for any meal, I try to follow the 1, 2, 3 rule. 1 – 3 ounce portion of protein, the leaner, the better; 2 portions of grain, 1/3 cup of grain or 1 piece of bread ; and 3 portions of fruits and veggies. I allow myself one day a week to eat out with my coworkers so I don’t feel left out.
An Apple A Day
I have always been notorious about not eating fruits and veggies like I should. I started by eating just one apple a day. (Or pear, or orange, or banana). I ate it with breakfast or a mid-morning snack instead of going to the snack machine. In very little time, I found I was replacing my bad habit midafternoon snack with a fruit as well.
Aww, Nuts!
One of my favorite late night snacks was a handful of nuts, especially 20 almonds. Nuts are high in protein and “good” fats. They also had a great way of chasing off that “snacky” feeling I usually get late at night.
Out on a Leash
I live in an apartment and have a cute Yorkie, Diva. I knew I needed to get out and exercise, but could not stand the thought of a gym or a treadmill. So, I start out by taking Diva out for a little more of a walk than just letting her “take care of business”. We started with just a walk down the block and back. Today, we walk two miles a day and it is not even a chore! I found that it has also really helped me sleep better at night and my residual post – work stress level has decreased. And Diva LOVES going out for our special time together every day.
Do Not Disturb
The hardest small change for me to make was to not disrupt my meal time. This meant I had to move away from the TV, radio, and books. I have found that if I am not distracted from my meal, I eat more slowly, enjoy and really taste my meal and actually get fuller with less food. (Though, I have to be honest, I STILL have trouble following this one as much as I should)
That’s it, my five easy steps to a new you for 2012. You are probably thinking, “These seems so easy, they really can’t work all that well.” I am here to tell you that I started these small steps in late January of last year and as of the last week in December; I have lost a bit over 50 pounds. I did not start the steps all at once, and I am human and I do back slide some. But give yourself chance and pick one of the changes, put it into practice and see for yourself what a small change can do for you.

Has your son ever grown a goose egg on his head during baseball? Or, has your daughter ever burned her hand by touching the stove?
It is important to be aware of the common accidents and injuries your children may encounter. More importantly, it is crucial to be prepared to handle these emergency situations because at times, every second counts. For this main reason, Tammy Ford, Director of Nursing at ER 24-7 Plus hosted an educational presentation for The Dads Group of St. Francis Episcopal Day School. The presentation was titled What Dads Should Know about their Children’s Health and was centered around common pediatric injuries. With all of the economic shifts, it is just as important for the dads to know pediatric safety as the moms. Therefore, ER 24-7 Plus strives to educate all members of the local families to help determine the severity of any injury and the proper steps one should take to remedy the situation.
The presentation covered six main areas of pediatric injuries; Sports/Orthopedic Injuries, Head injuries/concussions, Heat exhaustion, Burns, Eye injuries and choking and the dads were engaged during the entire presentation.
